月下独酌
Drinking Alone Under the Moon
by Li Bai 李白 · 701 – 762
- Moon
- Wine
- Solitude
花间一壶酒A jug of wine among the flowers,
独酌无相亲drinking alone, with no one near.
举杯邀明月I raise my cup to invite the bright moon;
对影成三人with my shadow we become three.
月既不解饮The moon, of course, does not drink;
影徒随我身the shadow only follows my body.
暂伴月将影Still, for now, moon and shadow will keep me company —
行乐须及春one must take one's pleasure while it is spring.
