登高
Climbing the Height
by Du Fu 杜甫 · 712 – 770
- Autumn
- Illness
- Rivers
风急天高猿啸哀The wind is sharp, the sky high; gibbons wail, mournful.
渚清沙白鸟飞回The islet clear, the sand white; birds wheel and come back.
无边落木萧萧下Boundless, the falling leaves rustle down;
不尽长江滚滚来endless, the long river rolls in.
万里悲秋常作客Ten thousand li from home, grieving at autumn, always a guest;
百年多病独登台a lifetime of illness, and I climb this terrace alone.
艰难苦恨繁霜鬓Hardship and bitter regret have frosted my temples;
潦倒新停浊酒杯ruined, I have just given up the cup of cloudy wine.
